Everything you need to know before, during and after your lab visit.

What to bring

Lab order

Bring your current card so we can bill your insurance correctly.

How to prepare

Always follow the instructions from your doctor or on your lab order. These are general guidelines.

If your order saysWhat to doCommon tests

Medications

Take your medicines as usual unless your doctor told you otherwise. Let us know if you take blood thinners.

Not sure whether your test requires fasting? Look it up in the test menu.

During your visit

  1. Check in

Show your order, ID and insurance card at the front desk.

  2. Verify

We confirm your name and date of birth and label your tubes in front of you.

  3. Collect

A trained phlebotomist draws your blood or gives you a urine cup. Most draws take a few minutes.

  4. Go

Keep the bandage on for about 15 minutes. You can return to normal activities.

Feeling nervous about needles?

Tell the phlebotomist. You can lie down for your draw, and we'll go at your pace.

Getting your results

Results are reported to the provider who ordered your tests. Your provider will review them and discuss them with you.

Most routine tests are completed within one to two business days. Some tests take longer.

Under federal rules, you also have the right to request a copy of your completed lab report directly from the lab. Ask at the front desk for the request form.

Insurance & billing

BioNex bills your health insurance for the tests performed. Please bring your current insurance card to every visit.

  • Medicare patients: if Medicare may not cover a test your doctor ordered, we'll ask you to review and sign an Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) before collection, so you know about any possible cost first.
  • Statements: after insurance processes your claim, you may receive a statement for any deductible, copay or coinsurance.
  • Questions about a bill: contact our billing team using the details on our contact page.

The list of insurance plans we accept will be posted here. Please check with the lab before your visit if you're unsure about coverage.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an appointment?

Please contact the lab to confirm before your first visit. We're open Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.

Do I need a doctor's order?

Yes. Testing at BioNex requires an order from a licensed provider.

Can I drink coffee if I'm fasting?

No. Coffee, tea, juice and gum can all affect fasting results. Plain water is fine.

How long does a blood draw take?

The draw itself usually takes under five minutes. Plan a little extra time for check-in.

Why are there different colored tubes?

Each cap color means a different additive inside the tube. Different tests need different tubes, so you may have several drawn at once.

Can a parent or caregiver come with me?

Yes. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

When will my doctor get my results?

Most routine results are reported within one to two business days. Contact your provider with questions about what your results mean.
